General Information
- Search - Yes, on Granted Patents Only
- Priority - Yes, within 12 months
- Examination - As to form, novelty, and industrial applicability
- Publication - Applications are published in the Official Gazette
- Opposition period - 90 days from publication date
- Annuities - A maintenance fee is payable annually and is payable the first 3 months of each calendar year following the year the patent application was filed. A grace period of 3 months is allowed for late payment of annuities with an extra charge
- Term of protection - 20 years from the filing date
- Exploitation - Patent exploitation is mandatory within three (3) years from the date of grant
Filing Requirements
- Power of Attorney duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- Extract from the Commercial Register or a certified copy of the Articles of Association or Incorporation, if the applicant is a corporate body, duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- Deed of Assignment from the inventor(s) or a certified copy of the original assignment duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- In case of claiming priority, a certified copy of the priority document is required
- Specification, claims, abstract in Word format and formal drawings, if any, in English and Arabic languages. The Arabic translation will be prepared from our end.
Assignment
- Power of Attorney from the assignee duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- Extract from the Commercial Register or a certified copy of the Articles of Association or Incorporation from the assignee duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- Deed of Assignment from assignor to the assignee duly legalized by the Consulate of any GCC Member State.
Merger
- Power of Attorney from the entity surviving the merger duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- Extract from the Commercial Register or a certified copy of the Articles of Association or Incorporation from the entity surviving the merger duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- A certificate of Merger, duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State
Change of Name or Address
- Power of Attorney reflecting the new Name or Address duly legalized by the Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- Extract from the Commercial Register or a certified copy of the Articles of Association or Incorporation reflecting the new Name or Address duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
- Certificate of Change of Name/Address duly legalized by a Consulate of any GCC Member State.
