Trademarks

General Information

• Classification - 10th edition — Single class filing
• Search - Possible for word and device marks
• Examination - both formality and substantive
• Opposition period - 60 days from publication date
• Extension of time - possible for filing oppositions, counter oppositions, and responding to office actions
• Term of protection - 10 years from filing date and renewable for like periods
• Use - Not mandatory but trademark will be vulnerable to cancellation by any interested parties if there has been no bona fide use of the mark for a period of 3 consecutive years preceding date of filing for cancellation

Filing Requirements

• Power of Attorney duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate.
• Certified copy of the priority document if claimed

Renewal

• Power of Attorney duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate.

Change of Name or Address

• Change of Name -
• Power of Attorney duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate.
• Certificate of Change of Name duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate.
• Change of Address -
• Power of Attorney duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate.

Custom Recordal

• The customs registration is done according to Customs and Copyright Laws of Jordan. Recordal should be done at the customs head office in Amman and is valid as long as it is not cancelled by the trademark owner.

Patents

General Information

• Search - Published and granted patents may be searched by title and patentee name
• Examination - Formality, novelty, inventiveness, and industrial applicability
• Publication - Published upon grant in the Official Gazette
• Opposition period - 3 months from publication date.
• Annuities - Due annually on the anniversary of the international filing date and payable prior to grant.
• Term of protection - 20 years from filing date

Filing Requirements

• Power of Attorney duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate
• Declaration under oath from the applicant, stating to be the original inventor of the specific subject-matter of the Invention.
• If the applicant is different from the inventor, an Assignment from the inventor(s), duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate
• Certified copy of the basic patent/patent application.
• Extract from the applicant's entry on the Commercial Register
• Three copies of the specification, claims, and abstract in English together with an Arabic translation thereof.
• Three sets of formal drawings, if any

Industrial designs

General Information

• Term of protection - 15 years effective from filing date
• Examination - Formality and novelty
• Application with multiple figures - Acceptable
• Renewal - Not possible

Filing Requirements

• Power of Attorney, as per the attached form, signed by the applicant and legalized by the Jordanian Consulate.
• Deed of Assignment from the designers duly legalized by the Jordanian Consulate.
• Extract from the applicant's entry on the Commercial Register.
• Certified copy of the basic design.
• Three representations of the design.
• The class (es) in which the design is to be registered.
• The article(s) covered by the design and material used in producing such article(s).
• Description of the design pointing out the novelty aspects.
